DiMatteo, Nancy J.

Nancy J. “Jean” DiMatteo, 78 of O’Hara Twp. passed away at her residence on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Born November 10, 1938, in Pittsburgh, she was the Daughter of the late John Gernhardt and Loretta Wagner. Wife of Frank E. DiMatteo for 60 years. Loving Mother of Frank Edward (Amanda) DiMatteo, Jr. of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Deborah “Deb” (Dave) Bursley of Dallas, Texas, and Michael “Mike” (Nancy) DiMatteo of Jackson, Michigan. Grandmother of Nina, Jake, Katie, Hannah, Jordan, and Josh. Great-Grandmother of Gavin, Maddie, Trevor, Adrian, Emory, and Henly. Sister of the late John and Melvin Gernhardt. Jean was so loved by friends and family alike. She was a loving wife who always supported her husband’s dreams, including his “crazy” hobbies like skydiving and running marathons. Her children describe her as “super mom” because she was always involved in their activities, from PTA to Cub Scout Den Mother, to Brownie leader and Little League mom. She had a passion for cooking and baking, and she was always the hostess with the mostess to friends and family alike. A consummate entertainer, Jean had a charismatic, magnetic personality. She lived and loved passionately, and that love was felt by all who knew her. She was an amazing grandmother to her six grandchildren, and she couldn’t wait to spoil each and every one of them. Remembering Jean will put a smile on the faces of everyone she touched. Jean was also very active in her church, Mother of Good Counsel, where she was a commentator and leader of the folk group. With the friendship and fellowship of neighbors and friends, Jean walked a close walk with Jesus and showed her children how to do the same. They always said she had a direct line to God and are comforted to know they will be reunited with her one day. Friends and relatives will be received on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. and on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont Mass of Christian Burial Monday, February 6, 2017, 10:30 a.m. Saint Pio of Pietrelcina Parish (St. Edward Catholic Church), 450 Walnut St. Pittsburgh, 15238.
