Ritchey, Bertha T.

Bertha Ann “Bert” Ritchey (nee Tuckey) passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Born into a family of English and German immigrants, Bert was a life-long resident of Verona, PA. She graduated from Verona High School in 1940 and was President of the National Honor Society. She worked at Gulf Research Lab as an assistant Geophysicist for twenty years. While helping to run the small family business, Ritchey’s Grocery, in Verona with her husband Joe, Bert began attending night school at the University of Pittsburgh, earning her degree in 1968. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, she taught second grade at Verner Elementary School for the next twenty years. After retirement, she then volunteered at St. Margaret Hospital for the next twenty years. A much loved member of the community, Bert was active in the Verona Methodist Church. She loved and served both family and friends throughout her long life. She was an animal lover and cared for the many animals that were always a part of her family. Bert was a very amenable, sweet, kind, and selfless person who touched many lives.
