Messina, Elsa




Elsa Jean Messina, quietly departed this life on June 14th 2020, at the age of 91 years, with her family and friends by her side. She was born May 22, 1931, in Oakmont, PA where she lived most of her life. Elsa graduated from Oakmont High School in 1949 and married her high school sweetheart, Samuel Messina, in November 1950. She worked as a bank teller in Oakmont before starting a family in 1951. She and Samuel made a life of opening their home to many people of all ages, sharing the love of the Lord for years, then later she began and taught a women’s bible study that flourished for 25 years. Elsa was a talented seamstress and for years ran a small business from her home, fitting, mending and hemming clothing for customers, many who remained close to her heart. She loved to sew and cook and was talented at both, and above all, she wholeheartedly served the Lord for fifty years, seeking out opportunities to share Christ. Elsa was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Concetta (Martini) Piccinini, sister Mildred DeIllius, sister Eva Piccinini, brother Florio Piccinini, and most recently, her beloved husband of 71 years, Samuel Messina. She is survived by her eight children: Linda (Jack) Lydick, Daniel (Marti) Messina, David (Vicki) Messina, Matthew (Linda) Messina, Paul (Rhonda) Messina, Laura Amos, Teresa (David) Brennan, and Marie (Daniel) Hinkelman, 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Private services will be held with burial in Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick. Arrangements were handled through the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. Oakmont.
