Katzin, Loretta A.




Loretta Alice Pollick Katzin, of Oakmont, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023. She was born on January 13, 1937, in West Hazleton, PA, the only child of John Pollick, a coal miner, and Alice Pollick, a factory worker. Loretta graduated from West Hazleton High School and then went on to obtain a nursing degree at Hazleton State Hospital. Upon earning her R.N., Loretta began working in New York City, where she met her future husband, Dick, at New York Hospital/Cornell University Medical Center. Next, she became a United States Marine Corps wife, and had her first child while stationed in Quantico, VA. Thereafter followed several years of being stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC, during which time her second child was born. After leaving the Marine Corps, Loretta moved to New York City for several years for Dick to complete medical school. Subsequently, the family moved to Pittsburgh, PA, and finally Oakmont, PA, where Loretta’s family soon expanded with the arrival of twins, her third and fourth children. There followed many happy years of life. Loretta passed away from old age on March 4, 2023. Loretta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and caring friend to all who knew her. Loretta is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dick; her sons Richard (Anne), James (Sharon), and Eugene (Katherine); her daughter Darcy (David); and nine beloved grandchildren. Visitation with the family will take place on Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 2-5 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont, PA 15139 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023, at 10:30 at St. Irenaeus Church in Oakmont (Holy Family Parish), followed by burial at Homewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakmont Carnegie Library.
