JoAnn (Truby) Mentecky, 70 a lifelong resident of Springdale passed away on Tuesday Morning, December 12, 2017 with her loving family by her side in UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, Aspinwall. Born in New Kensington on November 7, 1947, she is the beloved daughter of Russell O. Truby and his wife, Sophie Green Truby of Cheswick and the late Violet (Ando) Truby. Dear Wife for 48 years of William Mentecky. Loving Mother of William (Megan) Mentecky, Jr. of Tionesta and Matthew Mentecky (fiancé Becky Galie) of Fox Chapel. She was so excited to be the Grandmother of William Mentecky, III who was born on November 6, 2017. Sister of Russell E. (Jan) Truby of Oakmont. Aunt of Shea (Jim) Swatsworth, Sean (Amanda) Truby, and Paige Truby (Mark Ziembicki) all of Oakmont. Great-Aunt of Isla Evelyn, Brooke Elizabeth, and Heath Russell, all of Oakmont. JoAnn was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where she served as President of the former Mother’s Club. She loved to cook, especially Polish and Hungarian ethnic dishes. JoAnn retired from the former Westinghouse, Cheswick, now Curtis Wright. She will be remembered for her warm smile and many acts of kindness to all that knew her. As her health failed her in recent years she had many “angels” that helped her along the pathway of life. They all know who they are. JoAnn and her family were honored to have them. Special thanks to the staff at Willows of Oakmont and UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. Friends and relatives will be received on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, December 15, 2017, 10 a.m. St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Father Ken Kezmarsky officiating. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery where her beloved Mother, Violet is buried. Donations may be made in her name to the Springdale Library, 331 School St. Springdale, PA 15144.
