Schmidtetter, George H.

George H. Schmidtetter, 81 of Pittsburgh, passed away on Saturday morning, April 11, 2020 at the Southwestern Veterans Center. Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 7, 1939, he was the son of the late George Schmidtetter and Minnie (Davis) Johnson. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Barbara V. Schmidtetter. Also preceded in death by his older sister, Mary Johnson, of Seattle, Washington. Loving Father of Gregg (Lisa Gavlik-Schmidtetter) and Jenny Schmidtetter. Grandfather of Alec and Mia Schmidtetter. George was a Navy Veteran and spent a number of years on both the USS Shangri-La and the USS Hancock, guiding fighter planes on and off the carriers. George enjoyed life to the fullest and had a smile that could light up a room. He was always quick with a joke and was often referred to as the life of the party. He loved attending Pirates, Penguins and Pitt football games. There is no doubt that he is enjoying a cheeseburger and a strawberry milkshake in heaven. George elected to be cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held later this year. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Southwestern Veterans Center, 7060 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Arrangements by BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont, PA 15139.
