DeGeer, Dolores

Dolores “Dolly” DeGeer, mother, grandmother, great grandmother passed away on Wednesday July 8, 2020. Dolly was born July 24th 1936 to Howard and Lillian Brown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is survived by five daughters Debbie (John), Diane (Roy), Denise (John), Doreen, (Mark), and Dana (Tony), fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and siblings Robert “Bob” (Zeda), Howard “Howdy” (Kay), and Lillian “Lilly”(Bill) as well as many nieces and nephews. Dolly had an outgoing, warm and compassionate personality. Her gift of hospitality will be remembered by many . She enjoyed cooking, baking and hosted many dinners and gatherings for family and friends. Dolly was very crafty and enjoyed many hobbies. She would spend weeks and weeks planning and designing her beautiful flower gardens for summer and every December was spent baking hundreds of delicious cookies then blessing her neighbors, friends and family with gorgeous cookie trays to enjoy for the holiday. Her undeniable work ethic and strength was made known in many ways but most of all by raising her five daughters as a single parent. As life advanced Dolly cherished the time with her daughters and loved engaging her grandkids in all her various hobbies. She taught them many things but her love for breeding and caring for her Persian cats is by far the most memorable. Dolly fought a long and difficult battle with brain cancer and was cared for by her loving daughters Debbie, Diane, Denise and Doreen. The 4 year journey provided a wonderful opportunity to deepen their bond, love and commitment to their mother and each other. A special “Thank you” for the compassion, dedication, advocacy and joy that Lisa, Ashley, Stacy, Cindy, Jackie, Jennifer, Sarah and Wayne from Gateway Hospice brought Dolly during her last year on earth. Friends and relatives will be received on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 2-7 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont.
