Edward F. Carey, 94 of Penn Hills passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 8, 2020. Ed is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, children, Ed (Deborah), Diane, Deb, Jack, David, and Michael, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Ed grew up in Wilkinsburg and worked at E.L. Weigand Company in the sheet metal department for 44 years. He married Mary Ellen Salsgiver in 1954 and dedicated his life to being a good husband, father, and grandfather. Ed loved baseball and was a manager for St. Joseph Little League for many years, coaching his 4 sons. He played softball in the Penn Hills Senior Softball League until finally "retiring" from shortstop at the young age of 85. His nickname was "Fast Eddie" as he was known for his speed around the bases. Friends and relatives will be received on Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont. Masks and social distancing required, no more than 25 people in the funeral home at a time. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, October 12, 2020, 11:30 a.m. Holy Family Parish (St. Joseph Catholic Church, 825 Second Ave. Verona). Private interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Verona.
