Young, Carol Susan (Dombroski)




Carol Susan Young (Dombroski) Of Sewickley, formerly of Burrell and Oakmont, age 66, passed away peacefully at her home on December 6, 2020 due to complications from ovarian cancer. Beloved wife of Jeffrey, mother of Adam (Kristin) and Garret (Rachael); loving “mee-maw” to Lydia, James, and Celia; daughter of the late Stanley and Romayne Dombroski; sister of Nancy (Patrick) Gallagher, Barbara (Gary) Hegeman, and Lisa (Thomas) Mazza; aunt to several nieces and nephews; and cherished loved one to many friends. Carol attended Burrell High School where she earned the Dr. Toth Scholastic Achievement Award and graduated in 1972. She went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania majoring in computer science in its inaugural class where she met Jeff, her husband of 43 years, both graduating in 1976. Carol worked at Westinghouse for 19 years and then was an administrator at Carnegie Mellon University for 19 years working in the Heinz College, the University Career Center, and retiring as the Dietrich College Information Systems Program Advisor helping students achieve their goals and dreams. She enjoyed traveling, souvenir shopping, bicycling, water aerobics, reading, talking with friends, and playing with her grandchildren. Carol served her community as PTO president at Tenth Street Elementary in Oakmont, a Church Eucharistic minister at St. Irenaeus, and Eucharistic adoration minister at Sts. John & Paul. A limited capacity viewing will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saints John & Paul Catholic Church Sewickley, PA at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 12. The family asks that attendees please wear a mask and socially distance to safely celebrate the life of Carol. A memorial celebration for Carol will be planned for next year.
