Edsall, Wallace D., Sr.




Wallace D. Edsall, Sr. of Oakmont passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn (Pyle) Edsall and is survived by his wife JoAnn Dempler.  Father of Wallace D. Edsall, Jr. and Judith (Eric) Sarriot.  Grandfather of Sarah (Mitch Pegher) Edsall, Stephen (Jackie) Edsall, Tracy Edsall, Johanna Sarriot, and Jessica Sarriot.  Great-grandfather of Nora and Beckett, Gabriella and Skylar.  Brother of the late Donald Edsall, Jr. and Elizabeth Gernandt.  “Wally” was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Oakmont and served on the vestry, as Sunday School superintendant, and as lay reader. He was a longtime member of the Sylvan Canoe Club in Verona and the Deer Lakes Pilots Club. A metallurgist, he had a successful career at the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation, finishing his professional life as an ASTM Fellow (the American Society for Testing and Materials) and a member of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). Wally volunteered and served proudly as 1st sergeant for the headquarters battery of the 107th Field Artillery Battalion of the 28th Infantry Division stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was an avid outdoorsman and nature lover, a wonderful neighbor to his 11th Street block, and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Following a private family Eucharist, Father Jeff Murph officiated at a gravesite service at the Verona Cemetery in Oakmont.  In lieu of flowers, Wally desired that donations be made in his name to Light of Life Rescue Mission, 10 E. North Ave. Pittsburgh, PA  15212. Services were entrusted to BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. Oakmont.
