Mentecky, William

William Mentecky 74, formerly of Springdale passed away Monday, May 10, 2021 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot. William was born August 26, 1946 near Ansbach, Germany to Irene Mentecky ( Grabska). It was in Germany that William would later meet Msg. Merle Mentecky, the only man he would ever call his father who adopted him. William came to the United States on a boat when he was five. A frequent story he told was that his first memory of America included seeing the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor and having a sore arm having received all of his inoculations at once. William graduated from Springdale High School. He grew up, met the love of his life, and raised his family in Springdale. He served stateside during Vietnam in the United States Air Force. William worked for over 30 years at Curtiss-Wright (formerly Westinghouse) Electro-Mechanical Division in Cheswick. William is survived by his children William (Megan) Mentecky Jr. of Tionesta and Matthew (Becky) Mentecky of Indiana Twp., and grandchildren William III, Allison and Marco Merle Mentecky. William enjoyed reading, hunting, gardening, and technology. All of those passions are shared amongst his two children and with any luck someday his grandchildren. William was married to the one and only love of his life Jo Ann (Truby) for 48 years. William is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. If William is spending the afterlife anything like his last few years on earth he is looking for a John Wayne movie to watch and deciding on a Bloody Mary or bourbon. With any luck his wife has one ready for him. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Springdale Free Public Library or a local public library of your choice. Friends and relatives will be received at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 ALLEGHENY AVE. OAKMONT, PA 15139 on Thursday May 13, 2021 from 2-6 p.m. Funeral service Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Tim Williams officiating.
