Erdos, Joseph Edward




Joseph Edward Erdos, age 82, son of the late Louis and Elizabeth Erdos died at his home which he shared with his wife Mary Louise Matisz Erdos for 57 years on May 11th, 2021. Joe is survived by his two children, Joseph Edward Erdos, Jr. of Philadelphia and Helen Elizabeth Erdos, two grand-daughters Lydia Elaine Kovach and Ivy Ophelia Erdos whom they loved as “Pop-Pop”. He is also survived by three brothers; Louis (Sylvia) of San Antonio, TX, Edward (Pat) Erdos of Florida, Thomas (Mary Ann) Erdos of Export, PA and a sister Elizabeth (Robert) Kopie of Butler, PA. He has numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Barbara (Jack O’Brien) of Richland, Washington and brother-in-law Gerald Herrington of Mentor, OH. Joe is Preceded in death by his sister-in-law Lorraine Herrington (living Gerald), Elaine and her husband Ralph Stoner. Joe served in the U.S. Navy for four years active duty; two years reserve. He was aboard the U.S.S Pocono. He was a graduate of Penn State University majoring in electrical engineering and Duquesne University with a B.A. in business administration. Joe was employed at the Vande Graff Generator and Nuclear Reactor at Penn State University and retired his career at Alcoa Research Lab in Merwin as a senior buyer in the procurement department. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member; member of Alcoa retirees, Moose, and American Legion. Joe enjoyed sports, especially attending Penn State football games with his son and nephew, Jeff. He was a bowler, swimmer, and loved golf. He will be remembered for his kindness and love for his family. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at AHN for their care and loving support. Friends and relatives will be received at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 ALLEGHENY AVE. OAKMONT, PA 15139 on Saturday May 15th, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at which a blessing service will be held. Joe will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery, Verona.
