Wallace, Walter M. (Sonny)




Walter (Sonny) Wallace passed away peacefully on November 4,2021. Born on November 3, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA. Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Phyllis on March 25, 2018. Survived by his four children Sharon (Larry Platt), Indiana Township; Timothy (Lee Anne), Chester Springs, PA; Thomas, Tampa FL; Nancy (Nadav Baum), Indiana Township and nine grandchildren; Sunny Yawn (Logan), Taylor Wallace, Saxon Baum (Stephanie), Kaylee Stephens (Drew), Jacquie Placido (Mark), Danika Baum, Kelly Wallace, Keaton Baum, Kirby Wallace and two great grandchildren; Maverik and Calvin Stephens. Sonny was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, and for him family always came first. He possessed an incredible work ethic and there wasn’t much he couldn’t do from fixing cars, to plumbing, wiring, carpentry and even building a garage from the ground up. He was employed by Duquesne Light Company for some forty-two years. He started as a lineman and was a foreman when he retired. After retirement he kept busy working for his son’s company, Waldec. Sonny’s warm personality and sense of humor was appreciated by so many. His nickname at Westminster Place where he resided for the past eight years was Sunshine because he always brought a smile to those around him. He grew up in Lawrenceville, served in the Navy for seven years, married Phyllis in 1952 and moved to Penn Hills where he raised his family. He loved to bowl, golf and travel, but the thing he loved most was spending time with his wife and family. He and Phyllis spent their winters in St Petersburg, Florida for many years. Friends and relatives will be received on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 10:00am until noon. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont. A time of remembrance will be held on Monday Morning, in the funeral home at noon. Please consider wearing a mask inside the funeral home.
