Burket-Truby Funeral Home of Oakmont

Heathcote, Donna

Born on January 21, 1932 at home in Oakmont above what is now Smoke’n Guns. Passed away peacefully at Presbyterian SeniorCare, “The Willows” in Oakmont, on March 30th, 2022. Daughter of Joseph and Pauline Oravec, of Polish heritage, she was very proud of her Polish roots and developed a great love of Polish polka music and polka dancing. Married for 16 years to Edward D. Flowers, loving mother of Judy Ann (Flowers) Ziegler of Oakmont; Mark E. Flowers of Tarentum, PA.; Cathy M. (Armstrong) Wash of Richmond VA; and Elizabeth A. Flowers (who sadly died at age of 6). Grandmother to four grandchildren: Diane Ricard of West Chester, PA; David Flowers of Springdale, PA; Trevor Armstrong of Washington DC; and Hannah (Armstrong) Daum of Georgia. She has two great grandchildren: Micah Ricard of West Chester, PA; and Rosalie Flowers of Springdale, PA. Very happily married to Thomas J. Heathcote of Oakmont for 20 years until his passing in January, 2000. Tom was a young Air Force Captain in WWII flying 52 missions, and later worked as an engineer for Westinghouse in Churchill. Donna and Tom shared a fulfilling life together during their marriage and were true soul mates. She constantly reflected on their time together; he was a true gentleman and wonderful companion for Donna. Donna was a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Oakmont, where her children attended elementary school. She instilled a strong work ethic in her children, and also encouraged them to be frugal and not wasteful, values she learned at an early age herself. She also set an excellent example of being strong during times of adversity, and being kind and compassionate to others. After Tom’s passing, Donna spent much of her time helping others. She volunteered at the John Heinz Veterans Administration in Fox Chapel, PA, where she received the “Outstanding Merit Award” from the Veterans Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, “in Recognition of 8,750 Hours of Outstanding Volunteer Service to Veterans”. Later Donna volunteered at the Riverview Community Action Center (RCAC) in Oakmont for their Meals-on-Wheels program. She also volunteered at Presbyterian Senior Care in Oakmont for years where she was a companion to several residents. Besides her volunteer activities, she was a member of Oakmont Garden Club and the Oakmont Lions Club. She also had a love of nature and the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and hiking. Donna developed a close relationship with several of her nieces and nephews who were very kind to her and there for her in her time of need. She will be missed very much by them and all of her family and friends who knew and loved her. Visitation and funeral service private to the family will be held at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. in Oakmont, with a grave side committal service and interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in O’Hara Township. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be sent to Presbyterian SeniorCare in Oakmont, or the Oakmont Lions Club.
