Glorioso, Joseph J., M.D.




Joseph John Glorioso, M.D. of Mt. Washington, age 90 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 16, 2022. Born in Verona, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Theresa Glorioso. Beloved Husband of 59 years to Kay (Trautwein) Glorioso. Loving Father of Dr. David (Tammy) Glorioso and Dr. Lisa (Dr. Ken Miller). Proud grandfather of Gabrielle and Grant Glorioso and Tyler and Ciara Miller, and our angel, Marissa Miller. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Angelo and granddaughter, Marissa Miller. Joseph graduated from Oakmont High School, then attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning his B.S. in 1953, followed by a Doctor of Medicine Degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia in 1958. He then Completed his internship and surgical Residency at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.Upon Completion of his residency, Joseph served 2 years in the United States Air Force as Captain in the Surgical Corps at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine. After completing his military service, he returned to Pittsburgh to serve as General Surgeon at Homestead Hospital. With the merger of Homestead Hospital and St. Joseph's, he continued his surgical career at SHHS, Jefferson Medical Hospital. During his career, he was President of Medical Staff, Chief of Surgery, and on the Board of Directors at SHHS. He was well respected for his professional skill and caring bedside manner. An avid golfer, Joseph belonged to Edgewood Country Club and Grenelefe Country Club in Florida where he resided with his wife in the winter. He shot his age many times and had many hole in one's. Joe loved all Pittsburgh sports and was a Pitt season ticket holder to basketball and football games. The family would like to give special thanks to Atria's and the Good Samaritan Hospice of Wexford for their love and compassionate care to Joe. Loved by many and will be missed by family and all who knew him. The last chapter of his wonderful enriched life has been completed. Well done! Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, April 21, 2022, 10 a.m. Holy Family Parish (St. Irenaeus Catholic Church), Entombment will follow in Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery.
