Michael, Richard

Richard "Monk" Michael, 78, formerly of Penn Hills, died Saturday, June 25, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Anna Michael, and his former wife, Sally. He is survived by his daughter, Monica, of Plum; brother, Jim (Joyce); and two nephews and a niece, of Upper Holland, Pa. Although only completing 9th grade in school, Richard learned a trade and owned the extremely successful Michael's Auto Body in Plum for 30 years. He lived a lavish lifestyle owning two homes, one in Penn Hills and the other in Daytona Beach, Fla. He was an avid boater and enjoyed hosting parties on his boat and at his home in Penn Hills with the indoor pool. He was known for often buying rounds of drinks at establishments that he frequented. A classic and exotic vehicle enthusiast, he owned several Rolls-Royce as well as other fine automobiles. He lived a full life, admittedly retiring too young at age 48. His lavish lifestyle ended when he suffered a stroke and blindness at 60 years of age. Richard was an animal lover. He was kind and generously donated to Animal and Children's charities. When he had nothing left to give and friends were few, he lived his remaining years at Demor Apartments in Verona. Special thanks to his housekeeper, Suzanne, neighbor, Sam, and friend, Linda, for their care and friendship in his final years. Services are private. Arrangements are entrusted to BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., Oakmont. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
