Russell E. Truby, 67, of Oakmont, formerly of Springdale, passed away unexpectedly, at his home, which he loved, on his favorite holiday, the Fourth of July, 2022, one day before his 68th birthday. Born July 5, 1954, he was the son of the late Russell O. (Sophie Green Truby) and the late Violet Truby. He is survived by his beloved childhood sweetheart and wife of 44 years, Janice Daniel Truby; he was the devoted father of Shea (Jim) Swatsworth, Sean Russell (Amanda) Truby and Paige Truby; Boppy of Isla Evelyn, Brooke Elizabeth and Heath Russell, all of Oakmont. brother-in-law of Connie (Henry) Morrow; brother of the late JoAnn (the late Bill) Mentecky; uncle of William (Megan) Mentecky, Catherine (Joe) Logue, and Matthew (Becky) Mentecky; and great-uncle of six. Russ fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a funeral director by owning and operating Burket-Truby Funeral Home since 1981. From a very young age, a strong work ethic was instilled in him, which was and is carried on through his children. Russ has been a pillar in the Oakmont community by serving in numerous organizations over the years; most recently he was master of ceremonies for the Memorial Day Service, sponsor of the Survivor's Tent at the annual Relay for Life, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, past president of Lions Club, longtime board member of the Riverview Community Action Center, two-time Oakmont Citizen of the Year, co-chairs with his wife, Jan, of the Len Anderson Christmas Fund the last 25 years, and had been generous to more organizations and causes than one can count. He was so proud to have been inducted into the Springdale Hall of Fame in 2009. Russ had a larger than life personality, lighting up a room, and enjoyed planning any and every event. He loved going to Alexander's Gym every morning, working out and making many connections. Russ enjoyed cooking ethnic food, especially Hungarian dishes, and also enjoyed baking. A devout Catholic, he was a lover of all churches, and supported many over the years. He enjoyed dancing, always had a cake for all his functions, enjoyed sending and receiving cards and was a friend to many, never meeting a stranger. Family, faith, friendships and relationships were at the forefront of his life. In the summer, he enjoyed going home early and spending time at his pool and working in his yard. Above all, he was a devoted and selfless husband, father, grandfather and friend. Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, and Friday, July 8, 2022, at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Holy Family Parish (St. Irenaeus Catholic Church). Everyone please meet at church. Committal prayers and entombment will follow in Verona Cemetery, Oakmont, with his dear friend, the Rev. Dr. Bill Ellis. The family strongly requests no flowers; instead, please donate in Russ's memory to Len Anderson Christmas Fund, P.O.
