Raimondi, Pietro

Pietro (Pete) Raimondi of Penn Hills, age 93, died peacefully at home on August 7, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Sara M. Raimondi (Spoltore),he was the son of the late Giovanni and Maria (Giacchero) Raimondi of Lussito d’Acqui Terme, Italy. He was preceded in death by his brothers Luigi Cardinal Raimondi, Francesco, Giuseppe, Carlo, and sisters Giovanna (Celso) Grenna, and Angela (Mario) Salvini. He is survived by his brother Guido (Stefania) Raimondi and his children Joseph (Christine), Maria Louise, Albert (Linda), Joanne (Richard) Chesnos, Paul (Gabriela), and John (Susan); proud grandfather of Christopher (Amy), Angela, Kathleen (Michael) Faringer, Joseph (Helen), Alessandra, Jordan, Peter, Eva Raimondi, Maria and Sara Chesnos, Paolo, Daniel, Lucas, Nicholas, and Elizabeth Raimondi. He is also survived by his great-grand children; Lucy and James, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family in the US and in Italy. As the apostle Peter was the rock of the Church, Pietro was the rock of his family. Pete came to the United States after World War II as a student at Carroll College in Montana, and then earned Bachelor and Masters degrees at the University of Notre Dame. He later earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon), where he met his beloved Sara. Pete was a long-time employee for Gulf Oil’s Research and Development Company in Pittsburgh. He later worked as an oil and gas consultant for Equitable Resources, and taught Petroleum Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Pete’s faith and generosity was demonstrated as an active member of St. Joseph Church (Holy Family Parish) in Verona and was always supportive of McGuire Memorial, Oakland Catholic, Central Catholic, and other worthy charities serving people in need. He was proud to earn his American Citizenship and raise his family in Pittsburgh. He also maintained his deep ties to his family in Italy and their proud tradition of service to the Catholic faith; values that he passed along to his family every day. Pete loved gardening, winemaking, and being connected to nature. He lived a humble, simple, and faith-filled life and served as an inspirational example to his family and friends, treating everyone he encountered with dignity and respect. Friends and relatives will be received at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., 421 Allegheny Ave. in Oakmont on Thursday, August 11 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 12 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Holy Family Parish), Verona. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to McGuire Memorial, 2119 Mercer Road, New Brighton, PA 15066.
