Stockey, Frances I.

Frances I. (Regan) Stockey passed away on August 22, 2022. Known to all as Sally, she was the beloved wife of John (Shorty) Stockey for just over 73 years. She was the cherished mother of Shirley Golofski (Gerard), Gary (Patricia), the late Deborah Cinefra (Frank) and John (Rebecca). She was the proud grandmother of 7 and the loving great-grandmother of 9. Sally was one of ten children born to Hilda (Hoffman) and William Regan. In spite of her German and Irish heritage, she was widely known for her mastery of making delicious pierogis and stuffed cabbage (typically made in batches of 100+). Also well-known as a great baker, she provided cakes for most family occasions, as well as many weddings for friends. And that is not to mention her homemade potato chip dip, which was requested and enjoyed by all. For years, she served as a volunteer at William McKinley Senior Center preparing meals for senior citizens. As a depression-era child, Sally never had the opportunity to pursue her desire of being a nurse. However, her door was always open to friends and relatives requiring additional care after surgeries or sicknesses, regardless of how long the stay may be. Since Sally was born on Christmas day 1930 and Shorty was born on Christmas Eve 1926, they started a tradition in 1969 of having a Christmas Eve party to celebrate both of their birthdays. Often, friends and relatives would begin to stop by to pass along good wishes as early as noon on Christmas Eve with many times the last of the guests not leaving until 5:00 – 6:00 Christmas morning. That tradition lasted well over 30 years. All those who did visit would spend time admiring Sally’s Christmas tree which was adorned with all crystal ornaments. To say the least, Sally was an organizational powerhouse who will be sadly missed by all that knew her. Friends and relatives are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Parish (St. Joseph Catholic Church, 825 2nd St. Verona) Private interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Verona.
