Brigitte E. Muller, 93, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 8th, 2023, at Longwood at Oakmont, in Verona, PA. Brigitte is survived by her daughter, Petra M. Traini. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilfried Muller (d. 2021).
Mrs. Muller was born in Breslau, Germany (now Poland), on February 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Georg and Gertrud (Linke) Heinrich. In March 1951, she earned her diploma in chemistry from the Chemische Analysen für Handel und Industrie, Zwickau, (East) Germany. On July 7th, 1951, she and Wilfried married and enjoyed nearly 69 loving years together.
She relocated with Wilfried and their young daughter from post-war Germany to the United States via an Eisenhower initiative to bring skilled Europeans to the U.S. They traveled across the Atlantic Ocean on the U.S.S. Harry Taylor, and were greeted by the Statue of Liberty on January 24, 1957. The Muller family was sponsored in this endeavor by the First Presbyterian Church of York, PA, where Mrs. Muller was active for many years. Brigitte greatly enjoyed her career as a medical technologist at York Hospital until she retired in 1992.
Throughout her life, Brigitte was an avid sailor with the Baltimore Cruising Club, always by Wilfried's side as his first mate. Following her retirement, she enjoyed extensive travel with her husband. In addition, she continued to volunteer within the community, notably at Nixon Park and local York garden clubs. Her thousands of hours of volunteer work - including four years spent cataloging a 2,000 volume wildlife library, creating displays, and eagerly showing school children the wonders of nature - earned her many awards. Stylish and sophisticated, she brought elegance to every aspect of her life, and most of all, was a loving wife, mother, and Oma.
Along with her daughter, Mrs. Muller leaves two granddaughters, Sonja (Roderick Adam) Shaw and Krista (Benjamin) Cogan; five great grandchildren, Solena, Roderick Daniel, Roderick Ian, Otto, and Carl; and a brother, Ekkehard (Vera) Heinrich of Hereford, Germany.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403 www.cbf.org or Richard Nixon Park Nature Center ℅ York County Parks, 5922 Nixon Dr, York, PA 17403 (indicate "Brigitte Muller").
