David J. Oniboni

d. Oct 23, 2026

Penn Hills

Dave Oniboni of Penn Hills, PA passed away this week at his home with his family. Son of the late Lee and Catherine (Matis) Oniboni of West Homestead, PA.

Loving father of Alison Oniboni, Laura (Giuseppe) Barbieri, Ethan Oniboni, and loving grandfather of Massimo Barbieri-who adored his Pap. Loved by his grand dog “babies” Lucy Oniboni and Jet and Jack Barbieri. He is survived by many family members who will continue to share his countless stories, even if you’ve heard them before. He is survived by his brother Lee (Lorraine) Oniboni, brother Mark (Kelly) Oniboni, sister Joyce Wess, and brother-in-law Br. David Carlson O.S.B. of Saint Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, PA.

He is also survived by several dear nieces and nephews; Dr. Lee (Christina) Oniboni, Luke (Rayna) Oniboni, Logan (Nicole) Oniboni, Eric (Shauna) Wess, Melissa Oniboni, Lauren (Nick) Lauth, and many great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Dave will be joined again in heaven with his parents, wife Alma (Carlson) Oniboni, brother Joseph Oniboni, brother-in-law Bill Wess, and many wonderful cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, and friends with whom he always shared such fond memories.

Dave graduated from Saint Therese elementary school in Homestead Park, PA and was raised in the Catholic Church. He graduated from Bishop Boyle High School in Homestead, PA. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was promoted up through the ranks to Sergeant and served as a Hawk Missile system operator in The 3rd Light Antiaircraft Missile Battalion.

After his honorable discharge, he attended Indiana University of PA and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse. Later he attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and worked as a Registered Pharmacist.

Dave was smart, strong, resourceful, funny, stubborn, resilient, and endlessly helpful to his family with whatever they needed. Kids and dogs all loved him for just being himself. His family was everything to him. He loved celebrating birthdays, holidays, and all get togethers. He loved vacations with family to Ocean City, MD and where he would become “beach Dave”. He loved a good plate of Italian food, a good bottle of liquor for special occasions, an authentic pierogi, having control over the household thermostat, a bowl of his chili that was just right, Bob Segar, Luciano Pavarotti, and Hootie and the Blowfish, a trip to the gun range, military and history talk, watching college and professional football and basketball, classic murder mysteries, comedies, John Wick, westerns, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and as a true Yinzer, he loved the Steelers. He had memberships in The National Rifle Association, Firearms Owners Against Crime, The American Legion post 980, and Pitcarin Monroeville Sportsman’s club.

Dave will be deeply missed and always loved. Burial with Marines Honors will be held on Saturday November 7, 2026, 12 noon at Mount Hope Cemetery in Penn Hills where he will join his wife Alma in burial. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage anyone who would like and is able to consider blood donation, which proved to be a valuable resource for Dave and gave him more time with his family.
