Obituary

David Gene Sipe, 82, of East Oakmont, PA, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.


Born in Johnstown, PA on March 12, 1941, he was the son of the late Earl and Rosemary Sipe. Dave graduated from Penn State University in 1963 with a Bachelor's Degree in Fuel Technology Engineering. He was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel for the entirety of his career, where he designed, built, and maintained steel furnaces and other plant equipment. Dave spent much of his career working at Allegheny Ludlum's West Leechburg Plant as Manager of the Maintenance Department. He was an active member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church in Oakmont, PA where he held various leadership roles within the church. Dave was an avid golfer who organized several leagues and cherished time spent with his golf buddies. He enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and provided them with a daily dose of good humor. His good nature and generosity endeared him to all who were lucky enough to know him. Throughout his life, he enjoyed gardening, tweaking the design of his backyard pond, financial investing, fishing, hunting, and spending time at the beach with his family. Dave was a man of tremendous knowledge and wisdom who freely shared both with anyone who asked. He had the meticulous nature of an engineer and applied his exceptional organizational skills to every aspect of his life, which was always appreciated by his family and friends.


Dave is survived by his loving wife of 56 years,Betty Jayne (Klingensmith), and two daughters, Dr. Kelly Sipe Russo (Steven), of Annapolis, MD, and Stacy Lynn Filkovski (Jeffery), of Rocky Mount, N.C. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Avrey Lynn, Marcus David, Ariel Lynn, Mira Isabelle and Jack Jeffery. He will be missed profoundly by his family and many friends, all of whom cherished him dearly.
