Elizabeth (Liz) Doughton Davis, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023, at the age of 92. She was the loving mother of Thomas (Susan) Greulich, of Sykesville, MD, Elizabeth (Kevin) Gilleland, Raleigh, NC and Margaret (Michael) Morris Champion, PA. Liz was born on February, 16, 1931, to Lewis and Elizabeth (Eagle) Doughton in Waco, TX and then moved to Birmingham, AL. She attended The Mountain Brook School, Ramsey High School and she was the Daffodil Queen of Jefferson County. Liz attended Stephens College, and University of Alabama where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. In 1953, this southern gal moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area with her family and settled in Mt. Lebanon where she met her husband Thomas A. Greulich. After marrying in 1956, they moved to Fox Chapel where they raised their children.
Throughout her life she embraced Pittsburgh by volunteering for the Twenty-Five Club, the Junior League, the Kingsley Association, Hospital Auxiliaries, Pittsburgh Symphony, The Women's Board of Pittsburgh, The Hillcrest Garden Club, Family House and the Women's Committee of the Carnegie Museum of Art. She was a member of the Twentieth Century Club, Fox Chapel Golf Club, Duquesne Club and Rolling Rock Club. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and researching genealogy.
In 1990 she married William H. (Bill) Davis, and her thirty-one wonderful years of marriage to Bill brought great love and joy into her life in addition to two more loving daughters Diane (Roger) Oxendale and Marcia (Dave) Bergren. Liz and Bill enjoyed their family and time together golfing, fishing, clay bird shooting and traveling the world. Throughout her life she visited Germany, France, Egypt, China, the British Isles, Australia, and New Zealand, before settling down to their home in Rio Verde, AZ and ultimately a quiet retirement at Longwood at Oakmont, PA.
Liz was predeceased by her husband Bill Davis and her brother Lew Doughton. She is survived by her children, step daughters and grandchildren.
Liz always championed her family and would greet you with a big smile and her welcoming southern charm. She was a beautiful person.
A service for the remembrance of Liz Davis will be held in the chapel of Longwood at Oakmont Saturday April 15, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Liz's honor can be made to The American Cancer society. Arrangements have been entrusted to BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC.
