Debra Lou Kern Pavlock, 71, of Verona, formerly of Greensburg and Connellsville, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born on September 28, 1953, in Connellsville, daughter of William L. Kern and the late Clara Lou Murphy Kern.
Debbie was a graduate of Greensburg Salem Senior High with the Class of 1971 and West Virginia University's School of Nursing in 1975. She was also President of the West Virginia Association of Student Nursing. Debbie's professional career included 21 years as a neonatal intensive care nurse at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh and then a like number of years as School Nurse at Linton Middle School in Penn Hills. To say the least, Debbie's life was focused on caregiving, not just to the babies at Magee's and the young people at Linton, but with her family, friends, animals, and all with whom she came in touch.
Skilled in nursing, she also brought a deft touch to a great array of crafts from which so many benefited. Her quilting, rug making, cross stitching, and sewing was without peer, a wonderful testimony to her grandmothers from whom she learned her art.
Debbie was an awesome daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She made a difference in each family member's lives and will leave a legacy of caring for all to learn from. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving husband Lawrence Pavlock, her daughters Laura Pavlock-Albright and husband Bill Albright, and her grandson Liam Albright of Oakmont, Erin Pavlock and husband Robert Young of Plum; her brother Tom Kern and wife Sarah Morrison of Silver Spring, MD, her niece Emily Williams and husband Craig Williams of Malden, MA, and her great nephews Gavin and Henry Williams.
As per Debbie's request, a private visitation will be held for the family.
Donations may be made in Debbie's memory to the National Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue Network or the Josh Gibson Foundation - Memorial Markers, an initiative that she was passionate about, that recognizes Negro League baseball players.
