Diane Hackett Harrell, 73, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023. A lifelong resident of Oakmont, Diane will be remembered by many for her caring heart, witty humor, endless hospitality, and dedication to her community.
Diane was born to Robert and Betty Hackett on May 30, 1950. She attended Oakmont High School (class of 1968) and graduated from Westminster College in 1972. Diane spent her entire career as a Spanish and French teacher at Penn Hills School District, educating thousands of students from 1973 until her retirement in 2007.
Diane was deeply involved in the local community. She was a member of the Garden Club of Oakmont and the Lions Club of Oakmont, serving as the latter's first female president. A woman of strong faith, she was a lifelong member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, played handbells, and volunteered countless hours hosting receptions. She also volunteered for many years at Meals on Wheels and Forbes Hospice.
Diane loved dogs, music, traveling, gardening and entertaining. And most of all, she loved her family and friends. She was truly a bright light for all who knew her, generous beyond words with her time, talent, and treasure.
Diane is survived by her brother Barry Hackett and sister-in-law Jane Hackett, nieces Sara Hackett and Alysa Hackett Spittle (Nathan Street), and nephew Rob Hackett (Jocelyn Avila), as well as great nieces Brianna Hackett and Aubrey Spittle and great nephew Bennett Spittle.
A service will be held at Oakmont Presbyterian Church (415 Pennsylvania Ave.) on Sunday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception.
In memory of Diane, we ask that donations be made to one of the organizations dear to her heart: the Lions Club of Oakmont, P.O. Box 335, Oakmont, PA 15139 or Oakmont Presbyterian Church.
