Donald Berger, age 73, of Oakmont, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 22, 2026 — his birthday — surrounded by the love of his family and the many memories he created over a life deeply rooted in friendship, humor, and connection.
Born and raised in Wilkinsburg, Don later lived in Baldwin before settling in Oakmont. No matter where life took him, he carried with him the friendships and bonds he formed early in life. Many of his closest friends had known him since childhood, a reflection of the loyalty and lasting impact he had on the people around him.
Don shared a deep and enduring connection with his wife, Ginny, with whom he spent 46 years. They built a life together, raising two daughters, Katie and Christie, that he loved deeply. It was a life grounded in love, partnership, family, and unwavering support. Through every stage of life, they remained devoted to one another and deeply connected.
He was the beloved husband of Ginny Berger; loving father of Katie Berger Folmar (Jason) and Christie Berger; and proud grandfather of Amelia and Cecilia, who brought him immense joy. He was the brother of Jane McCaffery (Bob) and the late Richard Berger. He shared an especially close bond with his sister, Jane, whose love and presence remained a meaningful part of his life through the years. He was the son of the late Dorothy and Edward Berger.
Don loved music and rarely let a room stay quiet for long. He always knew what was happening in the world — following sports, current events, conversations, and the lives of the people he cared about with genuine interest. Even as multiple sclerosis limited his ability to walk, it never diminished his spirit, his humor, or his ability to stay connected to others. He remained engaged, informed, and present in the lives of those around him.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, his strong opinions, his loyalty to family and friends, and his unmistakable way of telling it like it was. He was funny, thoughtful, and never one for nonsense — a man whose personality left an impression on everyone who knew him.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont PA 15139.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland, 4599 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh PA 15213 followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Everyone please meet at the church.
Don endured significant suffering from trigeminal neuralgia. In recognition of this, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Facing Facial Pain Foundation at https://facingfacialpain.org or 4591 W. Higgins Road, Suite 703, Hoffman Estates, IL 60192.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
