Edward "Bupp" Melvin Heim, Jr.

You may know Bupp as Eddie or even Ed. But if you’ve spent time in western Pennsylvania you know Bupp. And we are so glad that you do because every time we try to write about his life and what he meant to us, we find ourselves writing about a man who seems larger than life. But you know Bupp, so you know this isn’t a tall tale, Edward Melvin Heim, Jr. lived and his life was a constant act of service.

Bupp has always been an important person to many of us. He’s been an inseparable childhood best friend, brother, son, volunteer, and friend to many. Needless to say, because of this, Bupp is a big part of everyone. When searching to find a memory that defines Bupp, or at least who Bupp is to the people in his life, one normally cannot stop thinking of all the moments. And it only gets more difficult when you think bigger and realize that he meant that much to so many.

In addition to his many roles in our community, Ed was a longtime member of the Oakmont Volunteer Fire Department. He dedicated 24 years of service to The Oakmont Volunteer Fire Department. During his time as an active member he held many positions, including Fire Captain, driver/operator and served as a member of the Oakmont water rescuer dive team.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Edward and Phyllis Heim and siblings Lori and Jeff Heim. Bupp is survived by partner Cathie Haftl and many dedicated friends who were chosen family including Jon Criss, Laura Criss, their children Jon Criss Jr., Elizabeth Roberts, Leanna Criss, and grandchildren Scarlett Criss, Haylie Roberts, and Jon Criss III,and Mike Ford.

Friends and family will be received on Friday October 16, 2026 from 12-4 p.m. with a Fireman's Service and Prayer at 4 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont PA 15139.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oakmont Volunteer Fire Department or Burket-Truby Funeral Home.
