Gary Metz, 74, of Verona, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Charles and Mary (Harmon) Metz of Cheswick, Gary lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, service, and love for those around him.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Proteus, a submarine tender stationed in Guam.
He devoted most of his career to the automotive transmission industry. Gary shared his knowledge as an Automatic Transmission Specialty instructor at Rosedale Technical Institute and worked throughout his career with Transmissions by Lucille, Recon Torque Converters, and Transtar Industries. Following his retirement, he pursued his passion by founding Topline Converter in Verona, Pennsylvania. His expertise, integrity, and willingness to help others earned him the respect and friendship of countless colleagues and customers.
Outside of work, Gary believed in staying active and earned his Third-Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do through the American Karate Academy. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, spending time with family and friends, and taking pride in maintaining his yard. Gary also had a special place in his heart for his beloved pets, the wildlife that visited his backyard, and animals of every kind.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Metz; his sister, Susan Fowler; his brother-in-law, Gene Fowler; and his beloved brother, Richard Metz.
He is survived by his wife of 46 wonderful years, Ramona Metz; his two beloved daughters, Gillian Metz (Nathan) and Erica Metz (Kevin); his brother, Frank (Cindy) Metz; his sister, Ellen Sweet; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Family and friends will be received at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont PA 15139 for visitation on Tuesday July 14, 2026 from 3-8 p.m. Military Navy Honors will be held at 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary's honor to the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) or Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
