Gene Carol Skarja passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at the Concordia Nursing Home.  She is survived by her husband of 40 years Bayles K. Flanery and by two stepdaughters, Coreen Flanery Williams (Rich) and Krista Johnson (Danny).  She is also survived by her brother John (Claudia), nephews John (Laurie), Eric (Karen) and Gary (Michelle) and four great nephews and three great nieces.  Predeceased by her parents, John and Gene Skarja.

Gene was employed at West Penn Hospital in the Pathology Department all of her working career.  She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Oakmont Presbyterian Church choir and participated in many of the Oakmont Lions Club shows.  A sincere thank you to all the caregivers at St. Margaret's Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during her time there.  A special thank you as well to her home caregiver and friend, Jamie Spanik.

A visitation will be held on Saturday May 17, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Service to follow at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont, PA 15139.  Burial will follow at Deer Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakmont Presbyterian Church or St. Margaret's Hospital.
