Ida F. Gleeson, age 96 of Oakmont died August 20, 2024. She was a native of Ford City, Pa., and graduated as Valedictorian from Ford City High School. Ida earned a B.A. Degree in English and Spanish from Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pa and graduated with honors. She received additional educational training at Penn State University.
She began a teaching career at Ford City High School, teaching English and Spanish. Following her marriage to Mark S. Gleeson of Ford City in 1952, she worked for a year in the Department of State, Washington, D. C., and then taught Spanish and English for a year in Richard Montgomery High School, Rockville, Md.
She and her husband returned to Pittsburgh in 1954 where she taught in various Pittsburgh Public Schools and in the 1960's taught at the Village Academy, a private tutoring school in the South Hills for five years.
She became involved in the family restaurant business in Cadogan, Pa in the mid-1970's and was a partner in Falsetti's Villa restaurant for 12 years.
In addition to her other activities, Ida Gleeson served as a Commissioner of the Allegheny County Civil Service Commission for 28 years. She was the first President of the Women's Guild of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre as well as the Director of subscriptions to the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre for five years. Ida Gleeson was an avid tennis player and was well-known for her participation in bridge.
Surviving are her husband Mark, daughters Rosemary of Oakmont, PA, Mrs. Ellen Gleeson (Nick) Harris of Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and son Kurt of Indian Shores, FL, also two grandchildren, Katherine and Matthew Harris.
