Irene K. (Kokales) Petredis peacefully fell asleep in the Lord May 14, 2025, at the age of 92. She was born in Oakmont, PA to John and Olympia (Gandis) Kokales, Greek immigrants of Chesme and Lemnos, Greece.
For nearly 54 years Irene was the loving wife of the late William C. (Bill) Petredis, of Robinson Township, where they raised their two children, Angelica Fotos (Pete) of Louisville, KY, and Charles John Petredis (Jan) of Gibsonia, PA . She was the proud grandmother of 6, Stephanie Irene Coniff (Michael) and Gloria Isabel Fotos, both of Louisville, KY and Charles William Petredis (Maria) and Alexandra Dorianne Cameron (Anthony) of Wexford, PA, Christian Petredis of Mars, PA, and Athena Irene Mallios (Yiannis) of Pittsburgh, PA. Her biggest smiles were shared with her 6 great grandchildren: Anastasia, Charlie, and Eleftheria Petredis, and Cora, Evangelina, and Anthony Cameron. Irene was preceded in death by her parents and two older brothers George (Antoinette) and Clifford (Mary), all of Oakmont, PA. Aunt Irene also was loved by her many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Irene was a 1950 graduate and class valedictorian of Oakmont High School, and besides her calling as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister, she worked first as a secretary for Woodings of Oakmont, and Picker X-Ray Corporation of Robinson, and finally as the office manager for the Environmental Engineering department of Bayer Corporation of Robinson until her retirement.
Throughout her life, Irene enjoyed cooking and baking, mostly Greek delicacies, and loved music and dancing Greek folk dances. She almost always had a beloved dog. Irene and Bill enjoyed spending time with their siblings and their spouses and extended family. They especially loved traveling and celebrating birthdays, holidays, and Church Sacraments. They enjoyed dancing an amazing jitterbug. Irene watched and supported her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews and was proud of each of their accomplishments. Irene and Bill were married at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh and raised their children there. From 1984-2005, they were active members of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in the South Hills. Following their move to Longwood at Oakmont, they worshipped at Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church in Oakmont where Irene helped in the ladies organization and attended bible studies.
The family is grateful for the care she was given in her final years at Longwood at Oakmont and for her loyal and loving Care At Home caregivers, Kristie and Tammy.
Irene deeply loved God, her loving family and her country.
