James Ralph Stitt (Jim) passed away on March 25, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born in Pittsburgh on August 6, 1935, to William and Elsie Stitt. He is survived by the love of his life, his loving wife of 70 years, Georgeanne (Dye), his four children, Keith (Teresa) Stitt, Kerri (Jim) Watson, Kraig (Keely) Stitt, and Kammi (Carl) Barbarino. His six grandchildren, Stephanie (Lucas) Heakins, Zachary (Erin) Stitt, Brianna Barbarino, Samantha (Tim) Dietz, Sarah (Steven) Stasik, and Jonathan (Sophia) Barbarino and four great grandchildren, Sienna, Arya, Lucas Heakins and Alexander Dietz. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sarah Dye as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim was extremely proud of his four children and as they were growing up, he could be found coaching or watching all their sports and other activities. This continued with all of his grandchildren as well.
Jim was most proud of his time he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Iowa during the Korean War. For many years, he and Georgeanne attended the Iowa reunions held each year throughout the country.
He worked at Hick’s ARCO in Penn Hills as a mechanic for many years after getting out of the Navy. He later worked for Port Authority Transit until his retirement. Known by many, it was rare for Jim to go anywhere without running into someone he knew.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Elsie Valerio, Eleanora Brickner, Anna Zechender, Daniel Stitt and his brother-in-law Gary (Tippy) Dye.
