James Richard Reddinger, Sr.

With heavy hearts, yet with the blessed assurance of our faith, we announce that James Richard Reddinger Sr., 83 of Harmar, formerly of Sharpsburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 11, 2026. He was born on June 1, 1943 to the late Charles and Doris Reddinger of Sharpsburg.

After graduating from Sharpsburg High School in 1961, James served in the U.S Navy from 1961 to 1966 as a Boiler Technician on the USS Turner where he had the opportunity to travel the world. James was a proud veteran who enjoyed spending Veterans day at the local VFW with his brother Chuckie. He could never have enough red, white, and blue in his wardrobe.

After the military James worked for Equitable Gas where he retired after over 30 years of service. During his retirement he served others and worked odd jobs wherever God led him.

James leaves behind an incredible legacy of following Jesus and serving Him with his whole heart. Shortly after giving his life to the Lord, James attended the Greater Works Bible School where he became a licensed and ordained minister. Beginning in 1980, he dedicated 30 years as co-leader of the Greater Works Prison Ministry holding weekly church services at the Greensburg Penitentiary. In 1995, the State Correctional Institution of Greensburg named the ministry the “Volunteer Group of the Year” for faithfully mentoring and spiritually advising hundreds of incarcerated men and never cancelling a service. He continued to minister to the men until the prison’s closure in 2013.

James will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Charlotte, of 60 years. They built a beautiful life together and were an amazing example of a Godly marriage to his children, James (Kristy) Reddinger of Harmar, Kelley (Eric) Szelc of Allison Park, and grandchildren, Logan, Jehnna, Emma, and Shane.

James is also survived by his sister, Katherine Goral, widow of the late Thomas Goral, of Shaler. Sister-in-law, Diane Hess, widow of the late Cliff Hess. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Doris Reddinger and brother Charles “Chuckie” Reddinger.

James will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to James caregiver Wanda, of Home Instead, who provided compassionate care, comfort and support during Jame’s final days

A special heartfelt thank you goes to his beloved wife, Charlotte, for her unwavering love, devotion, and care throughout their life together. Her strength, compassion, and presence were a constant source of comfort and love.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 16th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont, PA 15139.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 17th at 10:00 am. in the funeral home followed by burial at St. Mary's Sharps Hill Rd. with Navy Honors.
