Obituary

Lifelong Oakmont-Verona resident, John (Monenti) Young, age 93 died on Monday March 3, 2025.  A Korean War veteran, he was a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, the Verona Eagles, and the Oakmont Elks.  A retired foreman from Allegheny Label Co. in Cheswick, he was the charter president of its Pittsburgh Union.

His community involvement included appointments to the Oakmont Recreation Board and the Borough's Tree Commission.

Devoted husband of Rita (Olpere) Young for the past 70 years, John was the adopted son of the late Curtis and Mary Young.

In addition to his wife, the other "loves of his life" were his two sons, John Paul Young (wife Kelley) of Murrysville and the late Curtis James Young who was tragically killed in the 1994 US Air crash in Hopewell.

John was the "silly and fun pup-pup" to his grandchildren, Caitlin (Jordan) King, Brittany Young, Blythe (Charlie) Dolan, Haley Young, Stewart (Meredith) Young, Taylor Curtis (Jacque) Young, and Zachary (Cortney) Young.  John's granddaughter Madison Mary Young died at age seven months and is buried alongside her dad Curtis.

The family will hold funeral services with burial at a later date at The Verona Cemetery in Oakmont in the family plot.
