Bruce Arthur Johnston, 66, of Edgewood passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022. Cherished son of the late Arthur and Beverly (Stein) Johnston. Beloved Husband of Charles Blair Wessel. Loving Brother of Deborrah Lynn Johnston (David Kammenzind). Uncle of Laura Thompson, Caroline Tobin, Debra Varrati, and Nicole Collier, in addition to many loving great nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins, and his buddy, Beaugarde, a rescue mixed terrier. In 1974 he graduated from Shady Side Academy. Bruce received two degrees from the University of Pittsburgh: a Bachelor of Arts in 1978 and a Master of Library Science in 1979. He was elected with full membership into Beta Phi Mu: International Library Science Honor Society. Over the span of his career as a medical librarian, academic Librarian, and library administrator, he was employed by Eye and Ear Hospital & Institute, Department of Otolaryngology - University of Pittsburgh, Robert Morris University, Duquesne University and the Carnegie Public Library. In the 1990's, Bruce volunteered as the Supervisor for the Library/Information Center at the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force (PATF). In 1995 he successfully wrote and received a grant for PATF from the National Library of Medicine to enhance access to HIV/AIDS information throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. Bruce's knowledge, upbeat nature, kindness of spirit, generosity, and courage will be missed by his family and all who knew him. Services and interment will be private for the family at Mt.
