Mark Anthony Somma, 68, of Plum, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his home on August 19th, 2026, surrounded by the people he loved most.
Mark grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended Peabody High School. In 1979, at the young age of 20, he started his first business, a restaurant, Somma Pizza. He was a businessman, restaurant owner, farmer, hot rod enthusiast, and hockey coach. He worked hard for everything he had and took tremendous pride in the life he built. But of all the things Mark accomplished throughout his 68 years, nothing came close to what he considered his greatest accomplishment: his family.
Mark was the single greatest husband and father this world has ever seen. For 41 years, he shared his life with his beloved wife, Susan, and together they built a family that meant everything to him. His sons, Sergio and Vincent, were the light of his life. Mark was the type of father who led by example: kind, caring, supportive, and the first person you would want to call, whether in victory or defeat. From teaching his boys how to ice skate when they were 2 years old, coaching them in both life and hockey, to raising them into men, they, along with Susan, were the pride of his life. The bond between Mark and his family was precious and rare, and noticeable to all who surrounded them.
If you knew Mark, chances are you also heard him laughing. He loved to laugh, sometimes harder at his own jokes than anyone else did, and you would be hard-pressed to find a day when he didn't have a smile stretching from ear to ear. Mark could walk into a room and make it feel different simply because he was there. His energy was contagious, and it was one of the many reasons he was, and is, loved by so many. Mark cared deeply about his friends and would be there for anyone at a moment's notice.
Mark’s love, for his family and friends alike, will be something that no one can replace. There will never be another Mark Somma. For those of us who were lucky enough to call him a friend or a loved one, he will live with us always.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Somma; and his sister, Roseann Somma.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Somma; his sons, Sergio Somma (Jamie Choi) and Vincent Somma (Francesca Somma); his mother, Bernice Somma; and his siblings, Christine DeMore (David DeMore), Lou Somma (Theresa Somma), Joe Somma (Karen Somma), Nicolette Bauer (Robert Bauer), and Matthew Somma (Tasha Somma); as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday August 23, 2026 from 1-8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont PA 15139.
A funeral service will be held Monday August 24th, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by burial at Plum Creek Cemetery.
