Melvin D. Schubert, Sr. (94) of Springdale, PA passed away on August 16, 2023, at the H. John Heinz, III Dept. of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center.
Mel was born in Tarentum, PA on August 24, 1928. He grew up in the shadow of the Great Depression and World War II. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Just prior to this he met Susan Elizabeth Seagriff at the Tarentum Products Paper Mill. They married in 1950 and were married for 51 years, until her death in 2001.
Mel worked for 35 years at Westinghouse Electric Electro Mechanical Division where he was a journeyman machinist and officer in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1923. Mel loved to fish, garden, and spend time with his family.
He is survived by his sons, Mel Schubert, Jr. (Clare) of Altamonte Springs, FL, Gary Schubert (Jenny) of New Kensington, PA, and Mark Schubert (Christine) of Verona, PA, seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont, PA 15139 on Saturday August 19, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment and Army military honors will follow at Plum Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the H. John Heinz, III Dept. of Veteran's Affairs 1010 Delafield Rd. Pgh., PA 15240.
