Obituary

Michael G. Forbeck, age 65 of Verona passed away on Wednesday May 24, 2023 with his family by his side.  He was the son of the late Martha (Knapp) Forbeck and Maurice Forbeck.  Beloved husband for 31 years to Amy (Von Vreckin) Forbeck.  Loving father of Benjamin and Nathan Forbeck.  Brother of Tom (Kathy) Forbeck, Maureen (late Marv) Walters, Don (Sally) Forbeck, Paul (Nancy) Forbeck, Dot (significant other Bob Westling) Fitzgerald.  Michael was the uncle of 11 and great-uncle of 13.  Mike was a longtime member at St. Joseph's Church in Verona, often lecturing, volunteering, and even calling Bingo numbers for events.  He enjoyed gardening and was an advocate for the environment as a consultant and engineer; as he was a part of ASTSWMO a national organization of protectors of the environment for every state. Mike helped create the VOPP Trail (Verona, Oakmont, Plum, Penn Hills) connecting the communities through a bike and walking trial.  He was very active in the local community as he built set designs and was a part of the crew for the Riverview High School Musical, he ran and won on the Verona Borough Council, was Vice President of the Eagles Club, helped start the Rails to Trials program in Verona, was a Verona Hilltop Boy Scout Troop #139 leader and Cub Scout leader, and belonged and helped with various other Verona committees.  Mike was also an avid runner, completing 91 marathons during his lifetime, in every state and several countries.  He was then a mentor for marathon runners for the Leukemia Society.  Everyone that knew Mike saw him as a friend and he will be forever missed by his family and devoted friends.  Friends and relatives will be received at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont, PA 15139 on Sunday May 28 from 1-6:30 p.m. where a blessing service will be held at 6:30 with Sister Lynn Miller in the funeral home.  A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday June 3 at 1p.m. at Holy Family Parish- St. Joseph's Church 825 2nd St. Verona, PA 15147.  Interment to follow at St. Joseph's cemetery.  If desired memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society Running Team in Training https://pages.lls.org/tnt/wpa/yourway24/tthompson
