It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Michael John Niemiec of Oakmont, PA announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the age of 74 years.  He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife of 45 years, Janeann, and his extended family and friends in Chicago, Illinois.  He will also be dearly missed by the wonderful friends he made when Pittsburgh became his home in 1982.

Mike was predeceased by his parents Thaddeus Niemiec and Julia Niemiec.  He was born in Chicago, Illinois and always loved the city and the wonderful friendships that started there.  He completed his medical education and practiced family medicine in the Chicago area before completing a residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh PA.  Mike continued his work in Family Practice until 1999 when he began working in administrative medicine for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, retiring from that job in 2014.

Mike loved the music of his teenage years, playing his guitar, learning about history, and being a trusted and reliable friend.  He was extraordinarily patient, forgiving, and hopeful.  Mike found joy in every experience and lived his life with profound gratitude.

With respect to his wishes, no service will be held, and interment will be private.

Mike had a deep admiration for the lifelong generous qualities of his father, Ted Niemiec and his father-in-law Daniel Quinn.  At the time of their deaths, he established a foundation in their memories that is administered by The Pittsburgh Foundation.  Please remember Mike with happiness and, if so inclined, memorial donations may be made in his name to The Pittsburgh Foundation, Thaddeus Niemiec and Daniel Quinn Donor Fund, 5 PPG Place, Suite 250, Pgh.
