Obituary

Surrounded by loved ones, Nancy Alice Reese of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania passed gently on September 19th, 2024 in Brattleboro, Vermont.   She was 68 years old.

Nancy was born February 5th 1956 at Magee Hospital to Alan and Betty (Thomas) Reese.


Nancy graduated from Hempfield High School in 1974 and subsequently received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in 1979.


In 2002, Nancy became a cofounder and partner of Akoya Inc. a strategic communications firm, serving multiple federal agencies and doing pro bono work for the Midwife's Center and Planned Parenthood of W. PA.


Nancy served many years on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting Org.
She served as president of Squirrel Hill chapter of NOW in the 1980s and in recent years acted as the chair of the Women's Law Project an organization dedicated to gender justice.


In her leisure time, Nancy was an avid patron of the arts including Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, Chatham Baroque, City of Asylum.  She frequented the Pittsburgh Arts and Lectures and Pittsburgh Dance Council with her dear friend, Kasey Connors.  Nancy loved travel and hosted family and friends on many adventures.  Her generosity of spirit will be long remembered.


A loving mother and devoted friend to many, Nancy is survived by her mate of 14 years, Jan Wein, her son, Reese McArdle and his fiancée Christina Lee, her daughter Tessa McArdle, her children's father, Patrick McArdle, brothers Thomas Reese, Steven Reese, sister-in-law, Louise Selig Reese, Niece Caitlyn Reese and nephews Dylan Reese, his wife, Jamie and Maxwell Reese and extended family members, Rebecca, Nicholas, Noah and Ethan Delphia, Lillian Wein, Julio, Gael and Sosha Franco, Jessica, Todd and Eli Miller.


In lieu of flowers contributions in Nancy's memory can be made to the Women's Law Project 125 South 9th Street, Ste 300, Philadelphia, 19107


The family will be receiving condolences at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Avenue in Oakmont PA between 12:00 and 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 28th followed by a memorial service.
