Obituary

Neil Rice Paylor, passed away on Sunday October 1, 2023. He was born March 1,1933 in Fort Worth, Texas and spent his childhood there.
He was the only child of Joseph Caldwell and Kathleen Rice Paylor.

He attended Hanover College in Indiana, received a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Religion and Psychology from Harvard.

Some of Neil's favorite things include literature and writing, music, running, sailing, spending time in Maine. For decades he was a jazz drummer with groups that started at Princeton and carried through much of his time in Pittsburgh.

He and Anne loved to travel and took many trips all over the U.S. to visit their children and grandchildren in addition to jaunts to Mexico, transatlantic cruises to England.  Neil lived most of his adult life in the northeast, a little bit of cowboy always remained.  In his closet there was always at least one good pair of cowboy boots.

He was a professor at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary for many years and worked in private practice as a psychologist focused on the needs of clergy.

He is survived by his wife Anne, his children and their spouses Kathleen Paylor (and Allison Cease), Carole Jane (and Don) Eddy, Jennifer (and Marty) Leinweber, his son-in-law Scott Paulsen, his grandchildren Chris (and Sam) Leinweber, Emma Leinweber, Matt Paulsen, Tim (and Tam) Paulsen, Sam Paulsen and Sarah Paulsen and great granddaughter Anna Amelia Leinweber.

Neil was predeceased by his daughter Rachel Paulsen in 2021, and his granddaughter Katherine Leinweber.

A Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date.
