It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Patricia Ann (Allegrezza) Moore on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 82 years of age.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jill (Dan) Squire of Pittsburgh, PA, Sharon (Patty) Moore of Knoxville, TN, and Nancy Jo (Chris) Misiaszek of Marcy, NY; grandchildren: Danny Squire, James (Darla) McCullough, Madeline McCullough, Aidan Squire, Morgan Misiaszek, and Louis Misiaszek; siblings Tom (Peggy) Allegrezza, Kathie (Jerry) Allegrezza; son-in-law, Jim (Jill Taormina) McCullough; sister-in-law, Suzanne (Don) Moore; brother-in-law, Jim (Fran) Moore, as well as dear relatives, longtime friends, the best neighbors, and several beloved grand puppies.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 37 years, Rex Moore; sister Peggy Olson; and parents: Lucille and Tore Allegrezza.
Patricia, known by most as "Patti" and by a few as "Pat", was born in Fargo, North Dakota and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in her early teens where she met the love of her life and future husband, Rex, who serendipitously lived right around the corner on Green Bay Avenue. Patti graduated from Mount Mary College with an advanced degree and moved to Pittsburgh where Rex had just graduated from Carnegie Mellon. The newlyweds fell in love with this vibrant city where they built their life together. Patti and Rex created a welcoming home that exuded a rooted center and an atmosphere of warmth and light-heartedness, opening their doors to family and friends of all ages and persuasions and serving as a loving example for those lucky enough to know them. With no family in the area, they enjoyed especially close friendships including a book club that ran for more than 3 decades and expanded to include progressive dinners and seasonal celebrations.
Patti was simultaneously an accomplished professional and the center of the family who kept everything humming along. As an occupational therapist, her longest tenure was with Easter Seals for 30 years where she brought a very special heart to serving children with cerebral palsy and severe autism. Whether a child learned to hold a fork, button a shirt, or advance to the next level of communication, it was cause for celebration. Professional development was important to Patti and she was ahead of her time becoming an expert in sensory motor disorders and in the utilization of myofascial release among other innovative therapies. In her daughters, she instilled the importance of education and self-sufficiency. All three of them carry on both her fierce independence and commitment to service in a multitude of ways.
Patti also had a colorful side. Many festive gatherings on the front porch and back patio on Frankstown Road in Penn Hills stretched into the night, ushered along by her great cooking, hosting talents and a well-stocked bar. Patti had a great sense of humor that she carried with her through her last days. She endured merciless teasing from her family for her curious, questioning nature. She often kept us in stitches with her 'creative license' to mix up every day expressions. We usually knew what she meant to say as she declared "it's all water over the bridge!". The best part was she laughed right along with us. And if you ever teased Patti, you best be ready to get it right back. She never lost this fun conversational skill using it to connect with others and add some levity to conversations.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the beautiful people with Generations Memory Care at the Pointe at Lifespring who touched Patti's life over the last 4 years. Because of them her final years were social, fun, safe, and filled with love and care despite her Alzheimer's diagnosis.
