Paul R. Herrle, age 98, formerly of Oakmont for 70 years and Wexford for the last year, passed away on Sunday January 12, 2025, 25 days short of his 99th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Herrle, father of Jim (Jan) of Garfield, Kitty (B.J.) Jehn of Cochronton, Dennis (Karen) of Tuscan, AZ, Rich (late Susan) of Wexford, Bob (Eve) Forest Hills, grandfather of 12, great-grandfather of 22 and uncle to 21.
Preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Marie, siblings and in-laws: Joe, Bob (Dorothy), Bill (Barb), Al (Betty), sister Betty (Lee) Dimitt, Joan (Walter) Modzelewski, Nancy Boyle, Betty Boyle, John (Joan) Boyle and 5 nieces and nephews.
He was born and raised in the Elliott section of Pittsburgh, enlisted in the Navy in WWII and served as a Corpsman in the First Marine Division in the battle of Okinawa occupying China for 9 months after the war. He worked for the railroad-Pennsylvania, Penn Central, Conrail – his entire career. He was an active member of St. Irenaeus Church until the last few years, a member of St. Vincent de Paul for 50+ years and was the second eucharistic lay minister in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday January 16, 2025, from 3 - 7 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont, PA 15139. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, on Saturday January 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 718 Hazelwood Avenue in the Greenfield and Hazelwood neighborhoods.
