Robert O. Murphy, 84 of Penn Hills PA, passed away, peacefully on Wednesday July 24, 2024.

Son of Thomas O. Murphy and Ruth (Harper) was born August 6, 1939, in Uniontown PA.  He graduated from St. John's High School in 1957.  He served his country in United States Air Force from 1959 to 1962.  He also attended The University of Pittsburgh, but it was the Airforce that gave him training in Computer Technology.  He had a 42-year career, first as a computer programmer with Crucible Steel Industries and then as an Information Systems Analyst with Union Switch and Signal from which he retired.

Through the years, he enjoyed playing chess, betting horses and occasional golf with friends and family.   But his most precious enjoyment was billiards, which he played from a small child, watching and learning from his brother Tom and even playing in a local pool league and traveling to the state championships to watch his brother compete.

He was preceded to heaven by his wife of 32 years, Maureen (Duncan) and his Father Thomas O Murphy, Mother Ruth (Harper), brother Thomas W. Murphy and nephew Edward A. Verbus.

Murf is survived by his daughter, Renee D, Murphy (Terry), Sister Patrica A. Ludwig (Donald), Neice Joy L. Verbus (Caitlin) and Stepson Fred Mergner (Brian), Stepdaughter Sherry Mergner (Noah and Nathan).

While he was often seen as a quiet man, he was a good provider who supported his family every day of his life. Murf was loved by many and showed great courage as he faced the last days of his life. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Family and friends will be received on Friday July 26, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. at 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont, PA 15139.

A blessing service will be held on Saturday July 27, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
