Obituary

Mrs. Sally Munson Imbriglia died peacefully on May 27, 2025 at her home at Longwood in Oakmont, PA after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Her children were by her side.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 16, 1945, Mrs. Imbriglia was the beloved mother of Sara Leone of Pittsburgh, PA (Steve) and John Munson Imbriglia of Darien, CT (Gillian), adoring grandmother ("Mum Mum") to Brooke, Harper, Cameron, Jack, and Charlie, loving sister to Alice Davis (Houston), and Aunt to Eliza Davis and Abby Lord. She was pre-deceased by her parents, John Gephart and Malene Tuttle Munson, and her sister Judith Hart Munson (Jim). She is also survived by her ex-husband, Dr. Joseph Imbriglia, of Stahlstown, PA.

She was a graduate of The Ellis School, Mount Holyoke College, and Duke University, where she earned a master's degree in education. She spent several years working as an elementary school teacher in both public and private school settings where she found great joy in helping young people grow and learn. As she always said, "I just loved teaching third graders."

In addition to spending many years as a teacher, she devoted countless hours to volunteer work in the Pittsburgh region, most notably with The Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, Gildas' Club, and The Women's Committee of The Carnegie Museum of Art. She enjoyed her years working at the women's shelter where she mentored and served as a confidante for women in need. She also served as a tireless volunteer for The Women's Committee for decades. She cherished the friendships she made on this committee and often talked about the many hours she spent working, talking and laughing in the Green Room of the Carnegie Museum.

A Pittsburgher at heart, she loved her time living in the East End of Pittsburgh, where she transformed her home on Murray Hill Avenue into a warm and wonderful gathering spot for friends. An avid gardener, she spent hours creating and cultivating beautiful gardens in each of her homes. She also enjoyed many years spending time at The Pittsburgh Golf Club with friends and family, by the pool and tennis courts.

Most of all though, she identified as a mother. She loved and supported her children in every way a son or daughter could hope for, and they will miss her deeply. One of her great joys was also watching them start their own families, and she was a cherished mother-in-law and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Cancer Bridges of Western Pennsylvania.

The family will hold a private burial and service at a later date.

In her remembrance, she chose both a Mr. Roger's quote, "Anyone who does anything for a child is a hero to me", and Psalm 121, "the Lord will watch over you coming and going both now and forevermore." She will be dearly missed by her friends and loved ones.

Arrangements entrusted to the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., Oakmont.
