Erna Schaal, age 105, of Verona and Oakmont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, January 11, 2023. Daughter of the late Carl and Natalie (Bittcher) Gutkuhn. Beloved wife of the late John H. "Buck" Schaal. Loving mother of William C. "Skip" (Cindy) Schaal, John H. "JB" (Julie Gismondi) Schaal, Dennis L. (Rockina) Schaal, and Jeffrey L. (Peggy) Schaal. Grandmother of Heidi, Kurt, Matthew, Kristen, Casey, Diana, Ashley, Stephanie, and Brianna. Great-Grandmother of 17. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Hugo Gutkuhn, Renatta Wind, Hedwig Richard, Herbert Gutkuhn, and Wilma Stewart. Erna was very artistically inclined, working as a seamstress in her younger days, enjoyed painting at Munroe Towers, and was very active in Riverview Community Action Center. Friends and relatives will be received on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Union Dale Cemetery.
