Obituary

Norm, age 73 of Oakmont passed away peacefully on Saturday May 6, 2023 at the VA Hospital Oakland surrounded by his family.

Norm was a dedicated and proud veteran who spent many years doing whatever he could to help other veterans. He was an avid car enthusiast. His kids attended many car cruises throughout life and learned to love those golden oldies!

He was a thrill seeker with a big heart and an even bigger need to go fast. He was most comfortable cruising the world on 2 wheels, even if that meant using his face as a brake.

He was a lover of the simple things in life and could make any situation fun or just ridiculously funny with his unexpected wit. His humor is one thing that all his kids have inherited. He enjoyed sharing his love for thrill seeking with his kids, from taking them out (as toddlers) on his shoulders while water skiing to getting Santa to bring a motorcycle to them (at a really early age). He would ride up the side of gravel pits with a kid hanging off the back of a quad and helped to 'cover up' some dad-kid shenanigans from mom. He was the guy who would take the entire neighborhood out for ice cream, (before there were seat belt laws and you could cram 15 kids into a Nova).

We could go on for days about all the great and funny things we've learned and admire about Norm. For now, we'll keep it simple and say he will be missed by a ridiculous amount of his "buddies" and his family.

He was the son of the late Virginia (Behenna) Lewis. Loving husband to Cheryl (Eckstein) Slipski for 49 years. Loving father to Jessica (Steve) Weiss, Norm (Jill) Slipski, and Laura Slipski. Grandfather to Grandsons Harrison, Brayden and Ian; and first Granddaughter Charlotte Alexandra who was born on May 7, one day after Norm's passing and named after him: Norbert Alex. Loving Brother of Harry (Pam) Lewis. Uncle of Kyle (Courtney), Conner and Great-uncle of Vada Kate. He was also survived by numerous cousins and extended family.

Norm was a member of the Verona Moose Lodge 250, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 1634 of Verona, the American Legion Post 600, and the Rolling Thunder VA Advocacy Group. Norm was a proud Army Vietnam Veteran. He received the U.S. Army National Guard Defense Service Medal, Vietnam service medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Bridge Special Award-Vietnam. He made several trips on Memorial Day to Ride the Wall with the Rolling Thunder group. Norm spent many of his earlier years with the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, was employed by Rob Roy Industries in Verona as a machinist and later worked for a cleaning company.

Friends and relatives will be received at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont, PA 15139 on Thursday May 11 from 3-7 where a blessing service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by military honors.
