Obituary

Stanley Earl Phillips, 91, a lifelong resident of Oakmont passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Known by his nickname of Corky, Stan was born 04/19/1934 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, the son of James Phillips and Bertha (Shaney) Phillips and brother to James F. Phillips.

Stan graduated from Oakmont High School in 1952, then went on to attend the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics where he earned his certification as an Airplane Mechanic. He then joined the United States Air Force and served until honorably discharged in 1960. Stan excelled while working on the B36 Strategic Bomber during his Air Force service.

Following his time serving his country in the Air Force, Stan taught Industrial Arts at Hampton High School while also attending the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his Master of Education degree upon his graduation in 1964.

Stan began working as the Director of Learning Resources for the Boyce Campus of the Community College of Allegheny County in 1965 and he remained there until his retirement in 1995 after 30 years of serving students and faculty.

Stan married fellow Oakmont resident, Patricia Ann Flynn on September 19,1959 in Pittsburgh, PA with Father Donald Clawson officiating. They remained living in Oakmont and enjoyed 65 years of marriage with their two children, Beth and Craig.

Stan loved all things having to do with cars and painstakingly restored a number of antique pedal cars, a 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie Skyliner retractable hardtop (for which he won the "Best of Show" award at the Oakmont Car Show in 1980) and a 1959 Chrysler DeSoto.  He loved making old things look new, making messy things look neat and making his lawn and yard look perfect.

Stan was a card-carrying member of the Turtle Club and was well known for his crushing handshake, having left a trail of pulverized metacarpal bones throughout the twin boroughs throughout the decades.  He was also known for his sense of humor and his willingness to help others with projects of any and all sorts.

Surviving Stan are his wife Patricia, Children Beth and Craig, grandchildren Brittany Neumann (Beth's daughter), Kelsey and Nolan Phillips (Craig's children). Preceding Stan in death are his parents James and Bertha Phillips and his brother, James Phillips.

There is no visitation, arrangements entrusted to the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., Oakmont.
