James (Jim) Stapel
,74 of Oakmont, formerly of Spring Hill passed away peacefully on Friday April 21, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Marlene (Messmer), son Jon (Casey), daughter Jennifer (Sal), sister Susan (Bob), grandchildren Nathan and Corey, step-grandchildren Sal, Jr., David, Nicole, Madison, Brady, step great-granddaughter Harper and many nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Walton and Elizabeth (Betty) Stapel.
Jim was a long-time resident of Spring Hill in the City of Pittsburgh where he took pride in the beautiful flowers which lined the property. Neighbors would often stop and talk with Jim and Marlene about their lovely garden. Jim was also proud of his work with the Spring View Athletic Association (SVAA) where he coached youth baseball for many years.
During Jim's last few months, an incredibly compassionate team of hospice nurses and the Chaplin from Grane Hospice provided Jim with essential physical and emotional support which offered comfort in his final months.
Jim was a proud and dedicated member of the United States Army and will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
The family invites those who would like to pay their respects to join them at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont, PA 15139 on Thursday May 4 from 10:30 to 11:30a.m. After a short service at 11:30 a.m., all are welcome to accompany the family in a procession to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville for a 1 p.m. interment. To honor Jim and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grane Hospice Care, 260 Alpha Dr. Pittsburgh, PA 15238
