William "Bill" Albert Meyer, Jr.

William Albert Meyer Jr. (“Bill”) of Pittsburgh, PA died peacefully at Longwood of Oakmont with his wife by his side on September 15, 2026. Born on November 5, 1938, he was the son of the late William A. Meyer and late Louise B. Meyer, and stepson of the late Jane A. Meyer.

He was married to his beloved wife Louise Motheral Porter (“Penny”) for over 60 years and they have three children: Christopher Porter Meyer (Sarah Tweedt), Robert Scott Meyer (Nini), and Julia Meyer Gray (Brian); as well as seven grandchildren: Aidan Fox, Jasper, Tristan and Elliot Meyer; and Kaya, Dorothy and Elizabeth Cenedella to whom he was known as “Pops”. Bill is survived by his brother, Richard Meyer, sister-in-law Ann Meyer, and stepsister Janie Thompson, all of Pittsburgh, and his sister, Mary Louise Dyer of Portland, Maine.

A lifelong Pittsburgher, Bill grew up on South Dallas Ave in Point Breeze. He Graduated from Shady Side Academy (class of 1957), earned a Bachelor of Arts from Colgate University in 1961, and then a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1964.

Admitted to the bar in 1965, Bill practiced labor law at Meyer, Unkovic and Scott for over 50 years. He was frequently recognized as one of the top labor lawyers in Pittsburgh. Bill was an active member of the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church and the Pittsburgh Rotary Club. He served in leadership roles at both Longue Vue Club and Ross Mountain Club.

Bill enjoyed traveling with family and friends, often exploring historical places and archaeological sites. Bill enjoyed Pittsburgh theater and cultural events with Penny. He was especially delighted in his time at Ross Mountain. He loved playing golf, fishing, playing card games or just relaxing on the porch. A tremendous supporter of all Pittsburgh sports teams, he was a passionate fan until the end. He was a staunch supporter of his own children in their athletic pursuits. Bill loved music of all sorts and “carried” a tune, often boisterously.

A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday October 2 at 2 pm at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA. 15238.

Gifts can be made in Bill’s memory to Shady Side Academy in support of the William Meyer Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be mailed to Shady Side Academy attn; Development Office 423 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh PA 15238 with “William Meyer Scholarship Fund” noted in the memo line. Memorials can also be made to the Alzheimer’s and Diabetes Associations in Memory of William Meyer.
